The Dollar Vigilante

What?  The Dollar Vigilante?  What the...?

A friend of mine sent me a link, that lead to a link, that in the end lead to... The Dollar Vigilante.  What, you may ask, is that?

There's a guy by the name of Jeff Berwick, formerly of Canada, who is a somewhat famous and successful money guy, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars.  The guy knows how to make a buck.  Jeff is also what he calls an anarch-capitalist.  Read that Anarchist/Capitalist.  That sounds like an enemy of the state to me!

He's formerly of Canada, because he left there some time ago, preferring to live in places like LA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, Argentina, and Chile (in Galt's Gulch).  I suspect the guy speaks Spanish...

I was just reading about a new service he and his people are offering called TDV Homegrown, a sort of advise column, or columns, for those of us still living in the USSA.  We, the subjects thereof, opines Jeff, need what he has to offer, and that what is advise, delivered in three or four separate periodic installments.

Thousands of hours of congressional hearings, testimonies, white papers, executive orders, news articles and other documents make clear the agenda of turning the US into a police state of Nazi Germany, Soviet Union and Franco’s Spain proportions. Hey Big Spender...

So, I've been thinking.  We, the Citizens of the USA, are in debt for something like 17 trillion dollars.  That truly sucks!  I've been thinking about how I, myself, have not spent one dime of that money.  Have you?  I don't think so.  How is it that we are indebted to such a staggering degree?

I thought and thought and thought about this problem, and my response has come to be that our fearless leaders over the last 50 years or so, and especially over the last 15 or so years, are responsible for all those expenditures.

Okay, so those dumb asses took it upon themselves to get us into this level of indebtedness.  It's time to start clambering loudly that THEY need to get us out of this problem.  THEY got us into the mess we're in, after all!

My proposal is that we tax or penalize ALL the politicians, until this problem is eliminated.  We seize 90% or more of their assets immediately, with no remuneration available.  I don't know how much that will bring us, but it's got to be quite a large amount.  I also suggest we force them to work for minimum wage till they are at least 75 years old, then no pension or retirement allowed.  They will have to rely on their children and relatives for their livelihood.

I think this is completely fair in every way.  The politicians made the mess.  It's their responsibility to rectify it, and not by taxing US more.

Late Summer Gardens

Have I been remiss in my writing?  Yes, and no.  My business has been SO busy this year that I have barely even thought about writing in the blog, let alone my other ones.  I've often worked from sun to sun and on multiple jobs during the same day.  Today I'm stuck at home, due to a worn out water pump and timing chain replacement in my pickup truck.  I had just purchased new tires, a nearly $800 expense, when my truck started overheating.  I was driving along in traffic on a side road, an older black lady in a somewhat beat up sedan next to me, when I started noticing that maple syrup-like smell of propylene glycol.  Thinking it was emanating from the aforementioned lady's car, I started considering getting her attention.  Then  something diverted my attention, and I was arriving at my destination to start some work.  When I began coming to a stop, I smelled it again, and realized it was MY truck with the problem.  Anyway, the mechanic called to say that my truck is done and I should come and pick it up.  The problem is, I am stranded at home.  Oh, well...

So today, I occupied some of my time with doing some weeding out in some of my garden beds.  My gardens are replete with every sort of garden plant, and weed.  I even have something that is supposed to be a useful garden plant, but has proved itself, despite a definite degree of beauty, to be a highly invasive and hard to control little pest plant - Perilla.  Perilla is a member of the mint family, and as such is an aggressive grower.  It mostly spreads via seed dispersal.  It is also known as Shiso in Japan, Chinese Basil, Beefsteak Plant, and many other titles.  Botanically, it is called Perilla frutescens.

Perilla is originally an Asian plant, but has been included in the cuisines of many disparate cultures, and is grown and/or is naturalized all over the planet.  I have no idea how it ended up in my gardens, but it is growing vigorously.  It is a striking and beautiful addition to my gardens, but like most mints, Perilla is potentially very invasive.  Luckily, it is also fairly easy to pull out!

So there you have it.  Perilla, Beefsteak Plant, Chinese Basil, Purple Mint, are all usable names for this useful plant.  I say useful, but I've never used it to date.  My younger son periodically makes a beverage from the plant, as he does from Lemon Balm, and seems to enjoy it.  The smell is minty, with a hint of cinnamon, and anise.  It is used in many Asian and Latin American dishes, though I've not looked any up yet.  You can actually find it for sale in markets geared toward those "two" cuisines.

Warre-style Beehive

Greetings readers,
This post will give you an opportunity to learn about an old kind of beehive known as a Warre hive.  Abbé Warré, a French priest from way back.  Warré tried out over 350 types of hives during his lifetime, settling on what was his own design, though really an amalgam of many other styles.
I read about he and his methods at www.biobees.com.  There you can find his translated, downloadable book, complete plans, etc., to get you started keeping bees.  If ever there was a time when it was critical that we all keep bees, it's now.  Here in Ohio most wild bees of all sorts are now dead!  That spells potential disaster, folks!  No bees equals no food!
Most beekeepers you talk to will probably tell you to stick with the standad Langstroth hives, but I say do ANYTHING, SOMETHING, and these are easy to make.

Judge Tim in Session

I just ran into this video, and no, it didn't leave a mark.  This guy is a black brother who gets it!  I'll say it again, he gets it - completely, or at least in this one video of his he gets it.  I can't vouch for any other videos of his just yet.

Anyway, watch this video by "Judge" Tim.  He is a concerned citizen, and amazingly, refreshingly, he is NOT promoting the leftist agenda!  He should be commended.  Maybe more black Americans will see his videos and begin ot open their eyes?  I hope so.

Raising Queen Bees of Your Own

Here are two excellent videos, or maybe three, on how to set up and raise your own queen honeybees.  This is an excellent thing for most anyone to take up, being a beekeeper, that is.  If you have any doubts about being able to do something like this, put them to rest, as beekeeping is NOT a hard skill to learn.  Mastering the art of beekeeping is another thing altogether, but in that it takes years to do.  I am NO master beekeeper at this point.  I have kept bees for quite a few years at this point, but have never done it with great gusto.

At this point, I feel that it is something that I MUST master - one of those skills that may become extremely important and valuable in a short while.  I plan to learn how to build my own equipment completely from scratch, from any lumber or wood that is available.  I want to try to track down, or create, all the hand tools that I might need to be able to build beehive parts from any kind of wood.  It could be that we sustain EMP attacks, that would reduce us to 1800s-type technology.  I hope that's not the case, but I want to be ready to handle it well, if it happens.

Don't be afraid!  Dive in and learn about beekeeping while you're doing it.  That is the best way!

The Evangelical Christian Threat

Two days ago, I read an article in a newsletter that I've mentioned before in my blogging, World News Daily.  The article spoke of the fact that our own military is or was being trained to see evangelical Christians as the number one terrorist threat to the United States of America!  What?  What?  Have you lost your corporate mind?  Also included on the list were Jews, Catholics, and various Moslem groups, Hindus, and Mormons  not necessarily in that order, but farther down the list.  Can you believe that?  I was incensed, to say the least.

Apparently, someone called them on it, and an apology was offered, although they claimed it was a mistake, and was never intended to have happened that way.  Uh huh...  I think it's clear that that statement was a lie, eh?  This comes not too long after my best friend, BO, named a Moslem to be the new Secretary of Defense.  Did you know that?  Amazing, no?

The blatant manner in which BO and his goons are conducting themselves and the negligent manner in which the "professional" media ignore, aid, and abed those criminals is...  criminal.  All should quickly become the newest denizens of our newest penitentiaries.   That from BO to CNN CEOs.  All should go to jail, or worse, for their many crimes.

What do you think?  What do you suspect will happen in the course of the year?  Next year?  Five years?

Beekeeping on the Cheap

Yes, it's true.  I'm a beekeeper, and have been for around 15 years or so.  My brother, Timothy, kind of got me into it.  He had been a beekeeper for quite awhile, both in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and around the Santa Fe, New Mexico area.  While in Santa Fe, Tim served for a time as a State Bee Inspector, which means he knew quite a bit about beekeeping, enough at least to impress his brother, myself.

As I said, I've been keeping bees, sort of in an on and off sort of manner, for around 15 years or so.  I've been lucky to have had 12 hives at one point, and at this moment I have exactly 0 hives, which could be interpreted as saying that I'm NOT a beekeeper, at this moment.  My last hive perished when, in the midst of last winter, the hive moth larvae got the better of my bees and crowded them out.  They perished, at any rate, while I was left with a web, cocoon, and feces clogged hive body, and no bees!

So I was talking with one of my brother-in-laws on Sunday, at the family Easter party, and he happened to ask me about my bees.  He asked me how many hives it would take to be able to make a good living, say $50,000/year in profit.  I flipped a number out there of 500 hives might do the trick.  Then he asked whether I felt it likely that I could find places to put 500 hives in the area of the country that I live in.  I said, "Yes, I believe I could."

So here I am, two days hence, and thinking about reviving and greatly enlarging my bee operations.  I have a ready supply of good lumber that I can get for free from a nearby window company, and some woodworking equipment.  I think I could do this on the cheap.  I already have around 30 workable hives worth of boxes, but I need more frames, and boxes to get the thing going.  I will also have to figure out how to produce my own queens, after purchasing some from suppliers to get started.  I will probably be able to capture some swarms this spring and summer, since I'm on a local swarm list, which means that fire and police departments around town will eventually call me to see whether I want to come out to a location and catch a swarm of bees that some civilian called them about.  That will help, both with populating my hives and with diversifying the genetics of my bees.

If you would like to start keeping European honeybees where you live, there are no doubt, as there are here, clubs or groups in your area of the world with people that would love to help you get started.  There are surely suppliers in your country that will be able to send you all the equipment you might need to get started and to expand your beekeeping enterprise.

If, however, you are a serious do-it-yourself-er, and you have carpentry skills, like Jesus of Nazareth, you might want to download a copy of Google Sketchup, a free and fee-based 3D CAD program that will come in handy, as well as free models of many different sorts of beehives.  With these, you should be able to create all the hive parts that you need, from scratch - if you're crafty.  Be crafty - it pays off in the end.

Here is a link to download Sketchup.  That is the English language version.  To get your copy in your favorite language, do a bit more searching.  Here is a link to applicable beehive models.  This should get you started.  The hot type of bee in our area is still the Italian, but Russians are coming on strong, as there is some evidence that Russian bees are more robust and resistant to many of the problems that their Southern cousins are susceptible to.

Perhaps the Coolest Alcohol Stove Yet!

I found this video on YouTube, and thought that this thing is just too complex, when I started watching the video.  I think I was wrong.  It is just BETTER, that’s all.  Yes, it takes longer to make than your typical coke can alcohol stove, but man is it nice!

In Response to the Article “Why is the World’s Economy Doomed?”...

Greetings and salutations to one and all!

I hope your day is going well.  Mine is rather tranquil at the moment.  My mind is NOT particularly tranquil, however.  I just read through the above mentioned article, which was delivered to me by WND (World News Daily) in a newsletter that you could sign up for if you so desire HERE.

If you’ve read the article, it would be interesting to get your take on it.  For myself, a citizen of USA, I find it unsettling to say the least.  If it turns out that it is our fault, which it certainly is at least in part, I apologize for my country.  I suspect that we played only a part in the fiasco, though I’m not trying to cover our butts.  It seems as if all countries might be run by idiots, not just MY country.  I’m not saying that I would have done a better job of running the USA than others.  Don’t get me wrong.  I am NOT the guy to do that, trust me.

So really, the only question that remains is, “What are we going to do?”.  Personally, when the economy crashes, I think that we will be hosed, just like all the rest of you.  I really hope that we don’t see WWIII because of it.  I have readers in the USA, Canada, the UK, Germany, and Russia, at this point, and I don’t want to go to war against any of you.  I consider you my friends, and hope that we never come to blows, militarily or otherwise.  But I actually believe that it is inevitable that WWIII occur, and I honestly think it will be sooner rather than later.  Sorry for that!

There are rumblings here in my country about civil war right now.  “Freedom isn’t Free” is seen all over the internet. The conservative side of the equation is disgusted by the excesses of the liberals, while the GOP seems to be losing its’ grip.  The fact that all but one of the major news/broadcast companies is basically socialist and heavily or completely liberal, and doing an amazing job of controlling elections, public opinions, etc., in favor of the liberal dictator we now have in the office of President, is getting close to pushing things over the edge.  I foresee an outbreak of violence in short order, and it will be bad here.  The list of anti-constitutional actions by the Obama administration is quickly growing in length. The American Constitution is under attack by BO’s administration and cronies on a daily basis. Obama, true to his word, has created a civilian military force, by the name of DHS, that is armed to the teeth.  The last few weeks, it has become painfully apparent that DHS is buying up ALL the ammunition and arms, for obvious reasons.  This parallels the de-funding of the military branches, the leaders of which (in the case of the Marines) is asking their personnel to conserve ammo, gasoline, etc., so that they can continue to be battle ready instantly.  The problem is, by conserving ammo and other stuffs, they CAN’T be battle-ready, since they won’t be practicing like they have in the past.  That is not good news.  Is this Armageddon?

The Federal Reserve, an illegal entity, which happens to be privately owned - not part of the Government - is churning out fiat dollars like never before.  The US dollar as the worlds reserve currency is about to come to an end, and yet our fearless leader and friends claims that all is well.  NOT!

The Obama administration is actually asking applicants to the DHS whether they would be able to open fire on US citizens.  They are only accepting those who answer affirmatively!  To hell with their oath to preserve and protect the Constitution of the USA against all enemies, both foreign and domestic, eh?  I suspect that the BO administration and the “Democrats”/Commucrats will shortly attempt to amend the oath public servants take to NOT include that little tidbit.

I plan to be surviving the economic drought, do you?

There is a young physicist by the name of Marcin (think Martian) Jakubowski, born in Poland and now residing in Missouri, near KC, who found that despite having completed a PhD, became aware that he was essentially useless because of it.  So, he bailed out and purchased a farm in Missouri, bought a tractor with which to farm his land, broke his tractor twice, and decided that he needed to build a better tractor.  All of this lead to a profound change in thinking, the creation of an open-source maker movement aimed at enabling locally-based abundance/post-scarcity mentality, and a plethora of open-sourced designs, which I am now presenting to you.

Another Earthship-type Design, Only Easier!

This morning I listened to an episode of the Survival Podcast, hosted by Jack Spirko (pronounced "Spearko", like a spear, or lance).  The Survival Podcast is, for me, a great way to spend some free time, or even while I'm working, if I've got a good set of headphones for my smartphone.  This episode was no exception to that rule!

The theme of the podcast was Earthship houses, but the guest was NOT the fairly world-famous architect and inventor of the Earthship building, Michael Reynolds.  This podcast was an interview with Biotechture CEO Mark Kirkwood.  Originally from Oregon, Mark lives somewhere in Texas now, heading up Biotechture Training, a cooperative non-profit organization.  Biotechture Training is dedicated to building community, as opposed to secluding oneself from society as a whole.  Additionally, Biotechture Training is focused on providing training for a means of enabling normal people to be free of the grid, free of dependence upon the "System", and to live decent lives in a happy way.  Ah, happiness!  That's a good thing, indeed!

Natural Born Citizen?

I've revisited the fact that Barack Hussien Obama was, perhaps, the son of a Nigerian exchange student to an American university.

Just a moment ago, I finished reading this rather lengthy dissertation on the real meaning of the term "Natural Born Citizen".  I already knew this in a very basic way, but reading this most excellent article put the entire concept into perspective.

"President" Obama is NOT a natural born citizen of the United States of America.  The definition of that esteemed estate, natural born citizen, is an individual born of TWO (2), citizens of the United States of America, not one citizen of the United States of America, and one foreigner.  That individual might be a ctizen, but not natural born, and thus would be ineligible to be elected to the office of President.  Therefore, despite my real desire to see a legitimate, black president in our country, I cannot agree that Barack Obama is that man, or can ever be that man.
